Making Kids Food Fun (and healthy!)

Do your kids ever get bored of the same old lunch or snacks day after day? Well, MY kids don’t – they want peanut butter & honey sandwich (natural PB, whole wheat bread, and bee-keeper bought honey), yogurt, and they always get their choice of fruit – EVERYDAY. Period.
The other day I was bored of the same-old and decided to spice up their lunch a bit (again. Last time was raisins in their PBH sandwich).
It was time for….a scavenger hunt!
I took a small drinking cup and layered the bottom with vanilla yogurt. Then, I sprinkled some raisins and topped it with another layer of yogurt. After looking in the cupboard, I got a little gutsy and put a couple of globs of peanut butter as the next ‘layer’. Then, you guessed it, covered it with yogurt. Some other items to be hunted by these little hunters were things like chopped banana, grape, etc. I topped with sprinkles that I found in the cupboard left over from Christmas cookies.
Boy were the kiddos surprised when they realized I wasn’t kidding about having a scavenger hunt with their food! They enjoyed guessing what each item was as they tasted it, and I enjoyed the short leave from the mommy monotony.
What are some fun, and preferably healthy, ways that you ‘spice up’ the daily food grind?

We buy “Kim’s Magic Pop” snack cakes from Anderson’s. They are like giant shirp chips and are all natural made of wheat, brown rice and corn. We love them with honey, penut butter, nuttella or hummus! Some other favorites are cucumber sandwiches or tomatoes or peaches with cottage cheese. I have a Kinder-Krunchies book that has a great granola recipe I’ve been meaning to try! 1 c oatmeal, 1/3 c wheat germ, 1/4 c coconut, 1/4 sunflower seeds, 1/4 c posdered milk, 1 t cinnamon with 2 T honey, 2 T oil, 1 t vanilla. Bake on cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Sometimes we make peanut butter, dry milk and honey playdough and play with our food!!! I could go on and on! Ha ha ha! I think we’ll be making baked pumkin seeds next week!
